## What is Plane?

Plane is an open-source, self-hostable project management platform built as an alternative to Jira. It gives engineering and product teams issue tracking, sprint planning and roadmaps without the licensing cost and the years of accumulated settings that come with legacy tools.

- ### Issue tracking

Custom states, priorities and labels for every piece of work.

- ### Cycles

Plan and run sprints, included free.

- ### Modules

Group related issues into features or projects.

- ### Roadmaps

Plan product work across teams and timelines.

- ### Multiple views

List, Kanban, calendar and Gantt-style layouts.

- ### Import tooling

Bring issues across from common trackers, including Jira.

## What's in the Meetrix Plane image

Self-hosting Plane by hand means PostgreSQL, a reverse proxy, SSL and email settings before anyone can log an issue. The marketplace image handles that setup.

- Plane on a dedicated VM with its own PostgreSQL database
- A Let's Encrypt certificate for your domain
- Instance admin (God Mode) credentials set at launch
- SMTP settings for Plane's email notifications on AWS
- A deployment template for your own AWS account or GCP project
- Email support from Meetrix at support@meetrix.io

## How to set up a self-hosted Plane server

1. ### Launch the server

Subscribe on AWS Marketplace or Google Cloud Marketplace, enter your domain, admin email and password, and deploy. The stack is ready in about 5-10 minutes.

2. ### Point your domain at it

Create a DNS A record for your Plane domain with the server's public IP, so the certificate can be issued.

3. ### Secure the instance admin

Sign in to God Mode at /god-mode (on AWS, the InstanceAdminUrl) with the admin email and password you set.

4. ### Create your workspace

Name your workspace, confirm its URL slug and click Make it live. Then invite your team and create your first project.

## Plane FAQ

What is Plane?

Plane is an open-source project management platform built as an alternative to Jira. It covers issues, cycles (sprints), modules and roadmaps, with list, Kanban, calendar and Gantt-style views.

Is Plane a real alternative to Jira?

For most teams, yes. It covers what people mainly use Jira for: issue tracking, sprint planning, grouping work and roadmaps. Jira still has deeper workflow customisation and a larger app marketplace.

Is Plane free?

Plane's Community Edition is open source under AGPL-3.0 with no per-user fee. On AWS or Google Cloud you pay for the server, plus any Meetrix software fee shown on the marketplace listing.

How do I sign in the first time?

Open God Mode, Plane's instance admin, at /god-mode on your domain (the InstanceAdminUrl on AWS) and sign in with the admin email and password you set at deployment. Then create your workspace.

Where does my project data live?

Inside your own AWS account or GCP project, on a dedicated server with its own PostgreSQL database. Nobody outside your organisation has access to your issues or roadmaps.

Can I migrate my issues from Jira?

Plane includes import tooling for common trackers. Budget time to map custom fields and workflows, since no two trackers structure issues the same way. Meetrix can help plan the move.

Which machine size should I choose?

t3.medium on AWS, or e2-medium (2 vCPU, 4 GB memory) on Google Cloud for small to mid-sized teams. Resize to a larger machine as usage grows.

How do I upgrade?

When a new version is published on the marketplace, back up your server data, remove the old deployment and launch the new version.
