## How to convert SBV to SRT

1.  Click **Open subtitle file** and choose your .sbv file exported from YouTube.
2.  Check the validation panel for anything worth fixing before you convert.
3.  Set the **Format** dropdown at the bottom to **SRT**.
4.  Click **Download** to save an .srt file, or **Copy to clipboard** to paste it elsewhere.

## Common problems when converting SBV to SRT

-   **Not sure what actually differs:** the cue text and timing stay the same - SRT just adds a sequence number to each cue and separates the timestamp pair onto its own line with an arrow instead of a comma.
-   **The SBV file won't load:** a backwards timestamp pair is repaired automatically - check the import report for any line that couldn't be parsed.
-   **Subtitles drift out of sync after exporting from YouTube:** that's usually a frame-rate mismatch between the source project and your video. Use **Scale** in the editor rather than a flat shift.

Is this SBV to SRT converter free?

Where do SBV files come from?

SBV (SubViewer, sometimes called YouTube captions) is the format YouTube Studio exports when you download your captions - it has no header and no sequence numbers, just comma-separated start,end timestamps.

Can I fix subtitle timing before converting?

Yes - this is a full editor, not just a format swap. Use Shift or Scale to fix sync issues, or edit any line directly, before you export to SRT.

My SBV file has no sequence numbers - is that a problem?

No, SBV never has them. SRT sequence numbers are added automatically on export.

Does this work on mobile phones?

Yes for opening a file and converting it. Timing edits are much easier with a keyboard, so we recommend desktop for detailed fixes.
