# Changedetection.io on AWS: Self-Hosted Website Monitoring

[By Shalomi Umeshika](https://meetrix.io/blogs/authors/shalomi-umeshika/) • September 28, 2026 • 6 min read

Changedetection.io on AWS by Meetrix is a self-hosted website monitor you launch from AWS Marketplace and run in your own account. It watches the pages you care about and alerts you the moment their content changes. The image comes with a password-protected dashboard and HTTPS setup already in place, so you can start adding pages to watch without building a server first. You can [launch the Meetrix changedetection.io AMI on AWS Marketplace](https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-w6fsrijkrzjd2).

Plenty of pages change without telling anyone: a competitor's pricing, a supplier's stock status, a regulator's notice. You either check them by hand or you pay a monitoring service per page. Running your own means the list of pages you watch, and what you do with the results, stays in your account.

## What Is Changedetection.io?

[changedetection.io](https://github.com/dgtlmoon/changedetection.io) is an open-source web page monitoring tool released under the Apache 2.0 licence. You give it a URL, it checks the page on a schedule, and it tells you when something is different.

- A visual selector, so you can watch one part of a page instead of the whole thing.
- Price and restock detection, with trend graphs for product pages.
- Alerts through [Apprise](https://github.com/caronc/apprise), which covers email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, webhooks and many more.
- Triggers that only fire on a keyword or a price threshold, which cuts down noise.
- A browser extension and a REST API for adding and managing watches.

The alerts are what make it worth running. Send them to a team channel, such as a [self-hosted Mattermost](https://meetrix.io/blogs/mattermost-ami-aws-marketplace/), or to a webhook that kicks off a workflow in a tool like the ones in our [Flowise, Langflow and n8n comparison](https://meetrix.io/blogs/flowise-vs-langflow-vs-n8n/).

## What's Inside the AMI

| Component | Details |
| --- | --- |
| changedetection.io | Version 0.60.6, running in Docker |
| Reverse proxy | Nginx in front of the app |
| Access | Password-protected dashboard |
| SSL | Automated Let's Encrypt setup |
| Base OS | Ubuntu 26.04 |

## How to Deploy Changedetection.io on AWS

1. **Subscribe and launch** Open the Meetrix changedetection.io listing on AWS Marketplace, subscribe, accept the terms, and continue to configuration to launch the instance. If the launch fails on a vCPU quota error, follow our guide to [increasing your AWS vCPU quota](https://meetrix.io/blogs/increase-aws-vcpu-quota/).
2. **Allow web access** Make sure the security group lets you reach the instance on ports 80 and 443, and keep SSH (port 22) limited to your own IP addresses.
3. **Open the dashboard** Give the instance a few minutes to start, then open its public address in a browser and sign in to the password-protected dashboard.
4. **Add your first watch** Paste a URL, choose how often to check it, and pick where alerts should go.
5. **Point a domain and turn on SSL** Point a domain at the instance and use the image's [Let's Encrypt](https://letsencrypt.org/) setup, so your dashboard password is never sent over plain HTTP.

Protect the Dashboard

Anyone who can reach the dashboard can see every page you watch and every alert setting. Use a strong password before you add real watches, and limit access to trusted IP addresses if the tool is only for your team.

## Pricing and Instance Size

The Meetrix software fee on the listing runs from **$0.001 per hour on t2.micro** up to **$0.029 per hour on t3a.xlarge**, depending on the instance type. AWS charges for the instance, storage and data transfer are on top. The software itself has no per-watch or per-user fee, so adding more pages to monitor doesn't change the licence cost.

Start small. Checking a handful of simple pages is light work, and you can resize later if you add lots of watches or shorten the check interval.

## Self-Hosted vs Hosted Change Detection

| Feature | Changedetection.io on AWS by Meetrix | Hosted changedetection.io | Manual Docker install |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hosting | Your AWS account | Run for you by the project | Your own server |
| Your watch list | Stays in your account | Stored by the provider | Stays with you |
| Setup time | Minutes from Marketplace | Sign up and go | Docker, proxy, SSL and updates are yours |
| Pricing model | Hourly software fee plus AWS costs | Monthly subscription | Server costs only |
| Support | Meetrix engineers | Provider support | Community |

The hosted service is the easier route if you only watch a few pages and don't mind someone else holding the list. The project's own page lists a subscription at [$8.99 a month](https://github.com/dgtlmoon/changedetection.io). Self-hosting on AWS makes sense when the pages you monitor are commercially sensitive, when you want alerts flowing into your own systems, or when your other tools already live in AWS. Our [guide to self-hosted software on AWS](https://meetrix.io/blogs/self-hosted-software-aws/) covers that trade-off more broadly.

## Who Should Use This?

- E-commerce and pricing teams tracking competitor prices and stock.
- Compliance and legal teams watching regulator pages, terms and policy updates.
- Procurement and sales teams following tender boards and supplier pages.
- Anyone who would rather not hand a list of watched pages to a third party.

## Frequently Asked Questions

How do I monitor a website for changes?

Add the page's URL to changedetection.io, choose how often it should be checked, and pick where alerts go. It compares each check with the last one and notifies you when the content differs.

What is changedetection.io used for?

It watches web pages and alerts you when the content changes. People use it to track competitor pricing, product restocks, policy and terms updates, job listings, tender notices and any page that has no RSS feed or email alert of its own.

Is changedetection.io free?

The software is open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, so there is no per-watch or per-user fee. On the Meetrix AMI you pay the hourly software fee shown on the listing, plus standard AWS charges for the instance, storage and data transfer.

How much does the Meetrix AMI cost?

The listing shows a software fee from $0.001 per hour on t2.micro up to $0.029 per hour on t3a.xlarge, depending on the instance type you pick. AWS infrastructure charges are billed separately.

What is included in the image?

changedetection.io 0.60.6 on Ubuntu 26.04, running in Docker behind an Nginx reverse proxy, with a password-protected dashboard and automated Let's Encrypt SSL setup.

How will I be notified about changes?

changedetection.io sends alerts through the Apprise library, which covers email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, webhooks and many other services. You choose where each watch reports from the dashboard.

Do I need a domain name?

For HTTPS, yes. Let's Encrypt issues certificates for domain names, so point a domain or subdomain at the instance before you set up SSL.

Does Meetrix provide support for this image?

Yes. Email aws@meetrix.io and our team will help with launch, configuration and upgrade questions. Please allow up to 12 hours for a reply.
